Modular Spray Systems

Modular Spray Systems for Flatbeds, Vans, and Trailers

Gregson-Clark modular spray systems are designed with a compact frame that houses the pump/engine and hose reel, separate from the tank or tanks. This modular design makes them an excellent choice for vans, flatbeds, trailers, and enclosed trucks. Highly customizable, these systems can be configured for a variety of applications, including lawn care spraying, plant health care, bare ground treatments, pest control, and more.

The pump/engine and hose reel are typically mounted curbside for convenient technician access. Since the tanks are independent of the pumping unit, they can be positioned on the vehicle for optimal weight distribution and easy filling. Each modular frame includes mounting points for secure bolting through the truck bed. Sprayers can also be mounted to a fork pocket base for easy loading and unloading.

The Modular Pumping Unit (MPU) features a compact, universal frame designed to accommodate different setups, whether a single hose reel and pump/engine combination or dual reels or dual pump/engine configurations.

Selecting the Sprayer Pump & Engine

Selecting the right pump and engine depends on your business needs and goals. A pest control company will require a different pump and engine compared to a company providing plant health care options.

Gregson-Clark sprayers use the pump to provide jet agitation back to the tank, ensuring consistent chemical mixing. Our most popular pump is the Udor Kappa-43, which provides 10.5 GPM, an ideal flow rate for lawn care spraying. The Kappa-43 high pressure is also a popular choice for spray rigs that provide ornamental treatments. When paired with ½” hose, these systems typically provide an effective spray range from the upper 20s to lower 30 feet, depending on conditions.

Selecting Tank Size

Modular spray systems offer a unique design where the pump and hose reel are mounted separately from the tank or tanks. This separation allows for greater flexibility in maximizing tank capacity and optimizing weight distribution based on your vehicle setup.

Standard tank sizes include 35, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 300 gallons, while larger capacity 510, 735, and 1035-gallon leg tanks are also available. PCO tanks come pre-plumbed and mounted in a frame with suction and agitation lines installed for easy setup.

For fully customized solutions, Gregson-Clark offers poly tank welding services, enabling the creation of tanks built to specific footprints to help applicators make the most of available space and capacity.

With modular systems, multiple tanks can be interconnected to create a custom configuration. In two-tank systems, 3-way ball valves are used on the suction and agitation lines to allow for tank selection and fluid transfer between tanks. For setups with three or more tanks, a manifold system is used to manage tank selection and flow control.

Selecting the right tank size ultimately depends on your business operations. When designing your sprayer, consider both the vehicle’s payload capacity and your daily application requirements to ensure the best performance and efficiency.

Hose Reels, Spray Hose and Accessories

Hose reels, hose, and spray guns are selected based on each user’s specific needs. Most systems come equipped with a Hannay E1530 hose reel, a 12-volt electric rewind model that holds up to 400 feet of ½-inch hose. For tree spraying applications, larger hose reels such as the Hannay E1836 and EP6024 models are commonly used. These reels are designed to handle larger-diameter hose and feature bigger inlet and outlet ports for improved flow.

Spray hose options can be chosen according to business preferences and application requirements. Hose is available in 300- and 400-foot rolls, with the most common sizes being 3/8-inch and ½-inch. For tree spraying, 5/8-inch and ¾-inch hose options are also available.

A variety of accessories are offered to help customize each sprayer to fit your operation. Popular add-ons include electric start engines, hose reel roller guides, fast fill systems for ride-on sprayers, high-pressure agitation, and many other performance-enhancing features.
